In Venice sunset isn't a time of day but an event: in half an hour the water turns from turquoise to gold to copper, and the crowds on the quays dissolve with the light. You see it best not from the shore but from the water, with a glass in hand. A short private cruise at sunset: the Doge's Palace from the water, the quiet channels of the lagoon, an aperitif aboard and the sun setting behind the islands — two and a half hours that stay with you longer than a whole day might.

In short

  • A private boat just for you for 2.5 hours, with a skipper and an aperitif aboard.
  • The Doge's Palace and the San Marco waterfront — from the water, in the finest light of the day.
  • Out into the natural part of the lagoon, to Sant'Erasmo and Vignole, away from the tourist canals.
  • An aperitif with prosecco or champagne and snacks included; sunset met in the middle of the lagoon.
  • The shortest and most romantic of our routes — ideal for a couple or a special evening.

The programme

  • San Marco from the water. We begin with the most striking: the Doge's Palace, the Piazzetta and the campanile glide past the boat in the sunset light, without the crowd that besieges them from land.
  • Into the lagoon. We head into the natural lagoon — past Sant'Erasmo, Venice's "kitchen garden", and the island of Vignole, where birds wheel over the water. No vaporetti here, no water taxis — only quiet and open water.
  • Murano or Burano — time permitting. If the schedule allows, we look in on one of the islands as they empty towards evening.
  • An aperitif aboard. The skipper drops anchor in a quiet spot, the prosecco is opened (or champagne by arrangement), snacks on the table — and you watch the sun go down behind the lagoon's silhouettes.
  • Sunset in the middle of the lagoon. The finale — open water, golden light and Venice in the distance. The best shots of the evening are taken from right here.

Boat and guide

As standard, the skipper, water, prosecco and wine are aboard. For a "dolce vita" evening a classic wooden launch or a sporty open-deck boat suits best; choose in our boat fleet. On request we add our licensed art-historian guide — to tell you about the palaces and islands you pass, or else leave the evening to just the two of you.

What's included

  • A private boat with skipper for 2.5 hours
  • An aperitif aboard: prosecco and snacks
  • A route out into the lagoon and by San Marco

Paid separately

  • Our licensed guide aboard (optional)
  • Champagne instead of prosecco, or an extended aperitif
  • A musician aboard, a proposal arranged, a photographer

The price is for the whole boat. For 1–3 guests at the price shown; for four or more, quoted on request.

When to go

  • We set the start to the sunset: in summer around 8:00–8:30 pm, in winter towards 4:30–5:00 pm. We'll name the exact hour for your date.
  • May–September — warm evenings and the finest light. Off-season we go in the enclosed cabin, and the sunsets are especially dramatic.
  • In strong wind the lagoon closes to small craft — we'll move the cruise to another evening.

FAQ

How much is a sunset boat cruise in Venice?

From €950 for a private boat for 2.5 hours with a skipper and an aperitif aboard. The price is for the whole boat (up to 5 guests), not per person; champagne, a musician and a guide optional.

What time does it start?

We set the start to the sunset: in summer around 8 pm, in winter towards 4:30–5 pm. We'll name the exact time for your date so you meet the sunset already on the water.

What's in the aperitif?

Prosecco and snacks aboard are included. On request we swap prosecco for champagne or arrange an extended aperitif, a musician, a proposal.

Is it good for a proposal?

Yes, it's one of the most requested: sunset in the middle of the lagoon, a glass in hand and Venice in the distance — the perfect scene. We'll help arrange it all.

Is it a cruise or a tour?

By default a romantic cruise with a skipper. On request we add our art-historian guide, and the evening becomes a story of the palaces and islands too.

How is a sunset boat different from a gondola?

A gondola is 30 minutes along the canals within the city; the sunset boat is 2.5 hours out into the open lagoon, with an aperitif aboard and sunset away from the crowds. A different scale of evening.

Sunset in the lagoon is reason enough to stay an extra evening in Venice. A glass, golden water and a city dissolving into light — from the water it's nothing like the view from the quay. Write to us with your date and we'll match a boat and a time to the sunset.
